Saturation Diving Captain Guide

Lead routes, call retreats, assign jobs, and keep a Saturation Diving crew coordinated as the Captain.

What does the Captain do in Saturation Diving?

The Captain turns team information into one clear route decision. Before the dive, assign the Engineer, Spotter, and Salvager responsibilities. During the run, track oxygen and pressure checkpoints, choose whether to advance or retreat, and prevent several players from abandoning their jobs to solve the same emergency.

Captain is not the role that talks the most. It is the role that makes short, timely decisions from the crew’s reports.

How should a Captain brief the crew?

Give the team one objective, one route, one retreat threshold, and one fallback. Long explanations are forgotten as soon as visibility drops. The briefing should fit in four lines and name who owns each decision.

  1. State the primary objective and the point where optional mining stops.
  2. Name the outbound landmarks and the intended extraction route.
  3. Confirm the Engineer owns systems, the Spotter owns warnings, and the Salvager owns cargo priority.
  4. Set the oxygen, pressure, damage, or route event that forces a retreat.

Review the progression guide before giving the final threshold.

What callouts should the Captain use?

Use a fixed callout format: direction, problem, decision, owner. A message such as “left passage, pressure fault, hold here, Engineer” gives the whole team an action. Avoid narrating every detail or using different words for the same command, because uncertainty costs oxygen and separates the crew.

CallMeaningCrew response
AdvanceRoute and margins remain acceptableContinue assigned jobs
HoldStop forward movement and gather informationMaintain spacing and check status
Drop cargoSurvival margin is shrinkingSalvager abandons low-priority weight
Hard retreatThe dive has crossed a stop conditionEveryone follows the extraction route

What should a Captain prioritize in a build?

Prioritize route endurance, visibility, communication consistency, and emergency margin before mining speed. The Captain must stay functional long enough to receive reports and lead the return. Compare current options in the verified upgrades guide.

How does the Captain handle an encounter?

The Captain decides the exit lane while the Spotter describes the threat and the Engineer protects recovery capacity. Keep one path open, cancel optional objectives, and move the crew toward the last confirmed landmark before the threat controls the route.

Review the monster overview before a route with uncertain encounters.

Is Captain good for solo play?

Captain is playable solo but loses most of its unique value without teammates. Engineer covers more solo emergencies, while Spotter provides better threat information. Captain rises to S tier when a four-player team consistently follows calls. See the class and role tier list.
