Saturation Diving Spotter Guide

Use sonar, threat warnings, route checks, and clear callouts to protect a Saturation Diving crew as Spotter.

What does the Spotter do in Saturation Diving?

The Spotter finds route changes and threats before they become emergencies. Scan ahead, track contacts, verify landmarks, and give the Captain a concise warning with direction and movement trend. The role is successful when the crew changes course early, not when the Spotter produces the most callouts.

Do not assume a fixed warning distance. Use the current interface and test how terrain, depth, and equipment affect detection.

How should sonar be used?

Scan at decision points instead of running sonar without a purpose. Useful moments include leaving cover, entering a junction, approaching an objective, or checking whether a contact is closing.

  1. Name the landmark or direction being checked.
  2. Scan once and read the result.
  3. Compare the contact with the previous scan.
  4. Report whether it is stable, approaching, crossing, or uncertain.
  5. Recommend the safest lane without making the Captain’s final call.

What is a good Spotter callout?

Report direction, distance trend, threat type if known, and the open lane. “Contact right, closing, unknown, left passage clear” is more actionable than “monster nearby.” If identity is uncertain, say so.

InformationGood calloutWeak callout
Direction“Behind the right ridge”“Over there”
Trend“Closing for two scans”“I saw something”
Identity“Unknown contact”Guessing a species
Safe lane“Return path remains left”No route recommendation

Which upgrades help the Spotter?

Prioritize reconnaissance uptime, oxygen discipline, visibility control, and mobility. Compare current tank and suit options in the verified upgrades guide.

How should the Spotter respond to named threats?

Identify the route effect before choosing a counter. A Spotter should report what the creature blocks, not chase it for a better view. Review the monster overview before the dive.

Is Spotter useful in solo play?

Spotter is strong for learning a route but cannot delegate the response. Use shorter objectives and larger oxygen reserves until the route becomes familiar. See the class tier list for team-size comparisons.
